So now there's new legislation being proposed, aimed at "helping" fat people!?! John's right, it's none of their business. I was very happy to hear him say he has a cheeseburger almost everyday, I'm sick of this group of politicians pushing their *feel goodsy* taxes on people, Santa Monica will probably ban the burgers from public parks. Most fast food joints offer variations of the *supreme salad*, which I like with Ranch Dressing(the heavy kind )
Should I now expect the government to legislate menu selections? God, I'm sick of democrats and their communist politics.
Should my weight become a problem, I'll take responsibility and take care of it myself thank you very much!
Can't drink, smoke or eat anymore |

Cheryl,
Yes...damned them...trying to Police everything. I had pizza last night, and no cheeseburgers yet this week, but just in honor of the Police, maybe I'll give In 'n Out another try to get mine right this weekend. (they never do...and I don't ask for anything unusual)
And...I heard that too...about the cheeseburger almost every day. Good for him.
I feel equally strong about the idiots who try to collect $$$$$ from fast food corporations. Then again..the parents may trycooking occasionally,
so the kids wouldn't have to eat at Mc Donalds EVERY SINGLE DAY |

I've seen several of those politicians, they should take responsibility for their own eating habits before dictating what the rest of us should eat.
The fast food may not be good for the kids, but it's what they eat at home, and the habits they pick up there that contribute most to childhood obesity. Lunches from home are HUGE, I've seen them, they sometimes bring ice chests, I've heard parents say they don't take advantage of the free lunch because we don't give them enough.
Then there's the politics. They removed the soda machine from our staff lounge for christ's sake, because somebody at the district came up with a zero tolerance of soda machines, but at the same time they sell these huge chocolate chip cookies for 50 cents, that line is always very long. The trash is loaded with apples and carrots. Then, when school ends, the ice cream man has a large crowd right outside the school, but do they complain about that? oh no, that would infringe on a minority owned businessman.
Ah, politics! |

Omg at the lunches from home and that the cafeteria doesn't feed them enough...
I used to like the school lunches just fine...but that was back in Maryland a few years back.
As for the Soft drink machine..that sucks equally...hope you have a little fridge to keep yours in at work, Cheryl. |

I'm just worried that if I sue McDonald's and win, they'll pay me in Gift Certificates. Then what'll I do?
Only thing I really want the law to do is to regulate restaurants to make sure that they put accurate information about nutritional values. |

"The Fat Police".
Is that like Chief Wiggum?
I want three things from FastFood 'restaurants' :
eatable food
valuable prizes or free stuff with each 'meal'.
"English Only" locations as I am tired of blank
stares when I ask a question that requires more than
an answer that involes a topping.
Example :
Me : "How much longer will you have these rib sandwiches?"
Them : "Huh? Que?"
AND no more sneaky stuff like having an item available that is a good deal, but burying it on the menu or not having it there at all.
Like the McDonald's 49 cent/42 ounce Coke. Still available, but it wasn't on the menu board that I could see, |

Nutritional values?
Is't it safe to assume that the NV's will be low on good stuff and high on bad stuff?
What is it that you woud like to know?
How much milk in a McDonald's shake : zero
How much salt in a burger and fries : lots
How much fat in a burger and fries : lots
How much meat in a 1/4 pounder after cooking : 3 ounces? |

With all the "breaking news" stories and "dirty little secrets" about restaurants in the past few years and all of the diet gurus,
I pretty much have an idea of nutritional values of anything edible.
But, I look at it this way:
If I'm eating out....whether it be fast food or a 5-star quality establishment, I don't care about the nutritional values
I do care about cleanliness and decent customer service.
Don, thanks for those tidbits LOL...love the English only window. |

Anne - Yes, we have a refridgerator in our staff lounge, each of us contributed 5.00 and got a deal on a used fridge, so we can store our lunch. As long as we're not caught with ancontainer of soda, we're fine.
Magicat - You can always hand those McD certicificates out for X-mas, OR, donate them to your local schools(hee hee), hey it's a write off, OR sale them at a discount rate and collect at least cents on the dollars for your settlement.
Say what you will Don, there is nothing like those fries, when they're hot and yes, loaded with salt, love 'em. Those shakes are made with yogurt, so do they fall into the nutritionally sound catagory? |

| OH yeah, last night on the way home, I went to the window and ordered a 42 ounce DIET coke, and the lady behind the window said "the 49cent value soda is not available at the moment, is that ok?" I said yeah, whatever. Now I see I was ripped off though, I didn't even know about the deal, too many signs to read as I round the corner, then there's the homeless guy I have to glare at, he has the nerve to knock on my window as I wait, it was the end of the day, I was hot and thirsty, I must've glared at him with sufficient disdain cause he did back off. |

I love the "English Only" window idea...
I *still* laugh about Don's review comment about "the guy behind the counter started losing his ESL skills" !!!
I think also, along Magicat's lines, that a law should be posted that discloses:
How many worms were embedded in the "meat"
How much sawdust was cut in with the "meat"
How many cockroach antennae per burger
How many moth wings consumed per visit
Which carcinogenic food preservatives were used and quantity
How many people have handled your burger that did not wash their hands after visiting the toilet
I think that is FAR more important than knowing how much salt/grease/lard/cholesterol/sugar is in the food, which you expected anyway. |

No way!
Fat people obviously spend a lot of money on food. Why would any eating house want to discourage them?
BTW - I saw a McDonalds on Foothill this afternoon that had closed down. It's the one where I got my free Coca Cola by telling them I wanted a free one.
Story to be told upon review section clean up of non-Don reviews. |

Attention FAT POLICE !
I went to Solley's Deli for lunch today, and couldn't help thinking of the FAT content in my Reuben. All that pastrami.
I did, however use Sweet 'n Low in my coffee. |

Hi Cheryl,
LMAO
I know....as soon as I posted this, I thought here we go....now the Artificial Sweetener Police will do a Citizen's Arrest like Barney Fife in Mayberry.
I've been using Sweet 'n Low for about 25 years and still have all my limbs, and teeth so I guess it's ok. I don't use cream, though. |

I used to use Sweet n low, not it's the blue stuff, Equal, and lots of it. I too seem to have survived pretty well despite tons of artificial sweetners and diet cokes, and coffee by the gallon.
Thankfully, I've got the food police to tell me I'm killing myself, well, time for more coffee with equal. I use non-dairy creamer, does that count? |

Cheryl,
Me too....sweeteners, Diet Coke (with an occasional original Coke) and lots of coffee...
Oh I'm sure the Nutrition hand wringers will have plenty to say about all of this, non-dairy creamer too.
Shhhhhh....wait 'til they hear about my Tequila indulgence! (that's when I use the original Coke) |

I like Vodka and Grapefruit juice occasionally, I know I get deductions for the alcohol, but do I get points for the juice?
Hey! A bloody Mary! That's nutritious, especially with the celery stick in it. |

Hey Cheryl, didn't you know that the enzymes in the grapefruit juice cancel out the enzymes in the vodka? That means the drink (greyhound, isn't it?) is a freebie! |

That sounds logical, ok, a Greyhound for lunch then!
Actually, I don't have time to go to lunch and have a drink here, I'll have to wait til I get home. That's an amusing thought, I can just imagine the handwringers here, if I came back after pounding a few drinks at lunch. |

Cheryl,
Oh my...yes those hand-wringers would label you forever.
Kinda showing my age here, but back in the early 70's at my first job we used to do that on Fridays....bosses included. They usually paid for it too, and some of us were "minors."
Makes you wonder how we worked those afternoons. Fortunately, we had no customer contact, it was a big mortgage-bank.
Those were fun times...back then, and unheard of now. |

| Hey, Cheryl! Dr. Laura doesn't like you! Did you hear her diatribe today on the AALA? She read a fax today from a lady who said the librarians in her local public library allow anyone of proper age to view pornography on the computers so long as they use a "computer condom"--a kind of barrier that shields what you're doing from the outside world. Do you allow this in your library, Cheryl? |
